Atlanta police are treating the death of a former head basketball coach at two Georgia universities as a homicide after his body was found in the city shortly after his family reported him missing.

The body of Sammy Jackson, a former men’s coach at Fort Valley State University and Savannah State University, was located Wednesday in a wooded area in northwest Atlanta.

A family says a former basketball coach who vanished earlier this week was found dead. According to WGXA, 59-year-old Samuel “Sammy” Jackson, was reported missing by his wife, Jill Jackson, on Jan. 27. WGXA says Jackson was the former head coach of Fort Valley State’s basketball team.

They say Sammy Jackson, who served as the Fort Valley State men's basketball coach from 2011 until he left in 2018, was found dead in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Atlanta police arrested 30-year-old Iquane Brown for the murder of 59-year-old Samuel Jackson. Jackson was a former Fort Valley State basketball coach who was working as an Uber Eats driver when he went missing and was subsequently killed.

A man previously identified as a person of interest in the death of a former Headland basketball coach, has now been charged with murder in Georgia.

Sammy Jackson, a former coach and Uber driver, disappeared in Warner Robins. Days later, police found his body in Atlanta, sparking a multi-city homicide probe.
