Community leaders say many are overwhelmed by fears Trump will end or let expire the Temporary Protected Status program that allows them to remain in the U.S. legally.

Just hours after the president’s inauguration, the immediate future suddenly looked far less secure for Haitian immigrants in the southwestern Ohio city.

A few protestors came from Cleveland on Monday to hold signs in support of the Haitian immigrants in the freezing weather at a busy intersection in Springfield. One driver shouted "Suck it up, snowflakes" out his window as he drove by.

Thousands of Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, are facing an "uncertain time" amid President Donald Trump's intensifying immigrant crackdown. On the campaign trail, Trump said he would suspend temporary protected status for Haitian migrants and deport them.

Now he’s President, and members of Springfield’s Haitian immigrant community are afraid he will make an “example” out of them as he promises to carry out mass deportations across the country, Politico reports.
