At least 24 deaths have been reported in the aftermath of the California wildfires ... everyone in their Altadena neighborhood knew her 83-year-old grandmother, Erliene Louise Kelley.

NPR's Juana Summers talks with Victoria Knapp, chair of Altadena Town Council, about the destruction in her town from the Eaton fire.

Edgar McGregor is the leader of the "Altadena Weather and Climate" group on Facebook, where he was posting warnings about the coming windstorm in the days leading up to the Eaton fire.

One victim was remembered as “a man with a quick wit, a brilliant mind and a love for his family.” Another victim was known to mentor young men, passing on “old-timey family values” he had learned as a boy. An Altadena resident who perished was a grandmother and former actor affectionately known as “Momma D.”

Many of the small businesses along Lake Avenue and Mariposa Street have burned to the ground. How many will reopen?
