A new study has revealed just how much time kids spend on their phones during the school day, and it lends some credence to Gov. Kathy Hochul's call for a cellphone ban​.

Students throughout New York state might have to give up their cellphones during school hours starting next fall under a proposal announced by Gov. Kathy Hochul.

Lawmakers in Vermont and New York are working to pass bans on cell phones in schools. Angela Arsenault, who represents Williston, presented a bill to the education committee last month that also prohibits schools from communicating with students on social media for school activities or sports.

Cutting down on kids' screen time is popular among many Long Island educators and parents. But some said the state should let school districts set their own policies.
