Jan 12, 2020 · That’s got some nice views, but plenty of steps heading up the Enchanted walk. You’ll know you’re level of fitness once you’ve completed the Enchanted walk. (Hint: it’s not enchanting if you’re not fit enough). Alternatively there is an open climb in February guided by the local alpine club. It’s the safest way to summit Taranaki.

IIRC the Maori say that Taranaki lived with the other mountains in central North Island. Taranaki got in a fight over a girl with another mountain and lost, and went to the other side of the island to sulk. So it kind of is the Lonely Mountain.

Oct 24, 2018 · With such a standout landmark, Mount Taranaki is definitely my favourite maunga. To come across it, you would have to specifically plan a trip with the intention to see it. Unlike Togariro National Park that most people drive through and take for granted. I slept by Mount Taranaki the previous night and just loved the ambience.

18 December 2019: North Egmont road end - limited parking This summer, parking is limited for the Mount Taranaki summit track at the North Egmont road end. Use local shuttles or start the trail from the Stratford Plateau car park on Pembroke Road, Stratford to avoid disappointment.
